Important Message from Dr. Kirkland

Dear Members of the Quest Community:

I write to inform you that Mr. Jurewicz will no longer serve in the role of teacher at Quest Academy.

We are determined to continue to provide the most effective science education for our students. Mrs. Cheryl-Ann Webb-Scott will act as interim lower school science teacher for the remainder of the year. We are fortunate that Mrs. Webb-Scott comes to us with a strong science background as well as a sound knowledge of Quest and Quest students. While we are actively looking for a permanent teacher for coming years, we promise to keep our parents involved every step of the way. Mrs. Erickson has already made herself available to any student in the event they need help coping with this change in staff.

I will make myself available both Monday and Tuesday before and after school to discuss next steps as we move forward. We thank you for your continued support and trusting your child's education to Quest Academy.

Khalek Kirkland
Proud Head of School

Alumni News:

Stephen Tharp, Class of '84 (one of the most respected concert organists of our age) will be performing on Wednesday, March 9 in Evanston. It will take place at St. Luke's Church. The program centers around the organ cycle FAUST composed by the late Petr Eben, the most prominent Czech organ composer in the 2nd half of the 20th Century

Stephen met Eben and his wife in Prague only a few years before he died and told him that, of all his organ music, his favorite was FAUST. He also asked him if the piece had ever been done with narration between the movements. It had not. So, he sent Stephen his own choices for the narrative, taken directly from Goethe, to be read in concert with the music, which is how it will be performed on March 9 in Evanston. As these text preferences were given to Stephen privately, this is likely the first time this work has been performed in the United States in this way. Here is more information on Petr Eben:

http://www.schott-music.com/shop/persons/az/petr-eben/

Jesse Rosenberg, PhD, Clinical Associate Professor of Musicology at Northwestern University will give a lecture on Goethe at 7pm; the performance of music/narration will be at 7:30 and last around one hour. Something like a $5 suggested donation at the door is requested; there are no tickets to be purchased. Also, some of Stephen's CD recordings will be available for sale that evening.

A link to the church's website, which includes additional details and biographical information for both Dr. Rosenberg and Stephen Tharp, may be found here:
