As we wrap up week #5 of the Kingdom Campaign, I am happy to report that we are over half way to reaching our goal! To date we have received over $82,000 in donations and pledges. 28% of our families have already contributed, along with 100% of our faculty, staff and Board of Trustee members. It is our goal to increase our family participation rate to 100%, as well! By now, our Development Committee has reached out via phone to everyone in our community, as well as many alumni families. Many of you have promised to contribute to the campaign and, for that, we are EXTREMELY grateful! Please remember that if you prefer to make a donation later in the fiscal year, we would be DELIGHTED to take your pledge now so those amounts can be included in the total for what we have raised. Help us reach our goal! To pledge, you may either use the pledge form that was sent home earlier, or call or email Karen Dickerson, Director of Development (karen.dickerson@questacademy.org).

Please remember that gifts to the Kingdom Campaign are part of the school's annual budget and are used for the day-to-day costs of running the school. We ask all of our families to give according to their own ability. Each and every gift to Quest Academy, regardless of size, is important and deeply appreciated (and is also tax deductible!). Everyone's participation truly does matter! Help us build the bridge on our castle to close the gap on what it actually costs to educate your gifted student!

If you have any questions on our Kingdom Campaign, please do not hesitate to contact Karen Dickerson, Director of Development, at (847) 202-8035 x461 or via email atkaren.dickerson@questacademy.org. Thank you to all of our families for joining us on "Our Quest today for our children's tomorrow..."

Weather-related Reminders:

Emergency Closing Policy
Under extreme weather conditions or general emergency, the Head of School (HOS) may decide to close school for the day. The HOS may consult with various individuals and contact Palatine District 15, but the HOS will make the final decision. Family, student, and staff safety is the primary consideration in closure decisions. If District 15 closes school because of heavy snowfall causing unfavorable or dangerous road conditions, Quest Academy will also close. However, if District 15 closes because of extremely cold temperatures, the reason to close is often because many students use bus transportation, which might be unsafe. Since Quest Academy students are transported by car, Quest will not close for cold temperatures only. When Quest Academy remains open, all parents are expected to make their own decision if they feel safe transporting their children to and from school, and act accordingly. A decision to close school will normally be made by 5:30 a.m. of the emergency day. All families and staff will receive an automatically recorded emergency message notifying them of the closure.

Quest Academy has instructional hours far exceeding the required hours set by the State of Illinois. Therefore, adding additional days to the calendar as "make-up" days after a closure is not necessary and Quest will only consider adding back days if the number of closure days exceeds four.

Severe Weather and Emergency Notifications
Occasionally, inclement weather necessitates a "snow day" or we may need to cancel after school events. Quest uses an automated calling system to contact Quest families with updates concerning late start, closures, and cancellations. This automated process contacts people by phone, text, and email depending on the situation and the urgency of the communication. Please notify Quest immediately when there are changes to family contact information. We will also be listed on the Emergency Closing Center.

Lunch Policy for weather-related closed days

The policy of Gourmet Gorilla lunch delivery is as follows: "Due to nature of notification with snow days, we are unable to provide parents with credits due to weather related closures. This is the same policy that we enforce with sick days or absences, we do need at least 48-hour notice in order to credit."

High School Happenings

Welcome back! I hope that everyone has had a safe and restful break. It is teacher recommendation time for many of our students and our teachers have been very busy getting these in to the requesting schools. If you have not requested your recommendations yet, please do so as soon as possible. For the public school districts, we have received their request directly from the school and passed them on to the respective teachers. Please allow a two week turn around for each recommendation request.

We are halfway through our campaign and half way to our goal! Thank you to those who have given. The castle bridge is growing and our army of Knights is getting bigger and stronger! Our Development Committee was hard at work on our first phone-a-thon last Thursday night. If you have not yet made a gift or pledge, please consider doing so now. We will be reaching out to those families that we have not contacted and that have not given the week after Thanksgiving break. Thank you also to those students who have joined the Campaign by handing out items during pick-up time on Thursday afternoons, and who united together to form the Kingdom Cantors! Watch for their video to land in your inbox soon!

Geography Bee

This year's National Geographic Geo Bee will be held on Thursday, January 17 at 2:45 in the Quest gym. Preliminary bees will be held before December 16 in the 4th through 8th grade classrooms. Only students in grades 4 through 8 are eligible to participate, according to the official rules. The classroom bees will determine the 10 finalists who will compete in the school bee on January 17. Classroom teachers will have official study materials. You can also find study materials at https://www.nationalgeographic.org/bee/study.

The winner of the all-school bee will take a written test to determine whether or not he/she moves on to the next level. Parents are welcome to attend the all-school bee. If you have questions, please contact Becky Leff at becky.leff@questacademy.org.

Night of All Knights Auction & Gala

We will look for a time in January that hopefully will work better for the community. It's our goal to celebrate and kick off the auction season with everyone! Thank you for understanding. We have reached the end of Week 2 of our 6-week-long Kingdom Campaign. This is such an exciting time for our school! Our army of Knights is growing outside of our castle. Our bridge is being built plank by plank as we reach towards our goal of raising $150,000 to "bridge the gap" between tuition income and the actual costs of running the school on a day-to-day basis. A most heartfelt thank you to those who have already participated by making a gift or pledge! We still have a ways to go. Our Kingdom Campaign volunteers will begin to reach out to our current and alumni families next week. If you have not yet made your gift, please do so now! Every gift, no matter the size, is critical to the campaign. Every family is asked to participate at a level that is comfortable to them so we can reach our 100% participation goal. Join us on our Quest today for our children's tomorrow!

2nd Trimester After School Class Registration

You will find the registration form for after-school classes in My Back Pack. Please carefully read the class descriptions to be sure the class is open to your child's grade level. Night of All Knights Auction & Gala

As we near the end of our Kingdom Campaign, we will ramp up for auction season! We would first like to thank Parul and Thomas Cheriyan for agreeing to be Honorary Chairs for this year's Night of All Knights! Thank you also to those who attended our volunteer coffee and signed up to work on one or more auction committees this year. We welcome all of our parents to join us as we move forward. If you have any questions about any of our committees or how you can help, please contact Karen Dickerson in the Development Office at (847) 202-8035 x461 or karen.dickerson@questacademy.org.

Watch your email for an evite to our first Quest Academy Holiday Party, which will take place on November 30, 2018. We look forward to an evening with all of our parents as we kick off the holiday season, as well as the auction season. Thank you to Victoria and Anthony DiIorio for opening up their home in Inverness for our party!

Finally, please mark your calendars for this year's Night of All Knights Auction & Gala on March 9, 2019, at the Stonegate Conference and Banquet Center in Hoffman Estates. And continue to watch the Weekly Quest for all the latest auction news!

District 211 has been in touch reminding us that teacher recommendations are due by December 7th. They have a new electronic process for these and I have forwarded that on to our Middle School faculty. Please be mindful of our teachers' time and make your requests for recommendations, regardless of which school you are applying to, at least two weeks prior to the deadline.

In addition to the recommendation letters, representatives from District 211 have been out to Quest to meet with our MS math teachers to discuss testing for math placement. Students who are currently taking Algebra I and Geometry must take benchmark tests. If you are going to a high school in District 211 and meet this criteria, please let your math teacher know, so we can request this test. For students who are in Algebra II or Pre-Calculus, you must take the final exam in June, at the District 211 high school you will be attending. For anyone interested, I have several District 211 Curriculum Guides for your review, detailing the course selection process and the various courses offered.

The Glenbrook Academy will be hosting its 8th Grade Parent Night on November 27th. I have attached their flyer with details for the event.

While Quest Academy is committed to assisting with the transition to high school and will post dates as they are known, it is the responsibility of the parents to contact the high schools to ensure that they are fully informed about placement testing, tours, and shadow days.
