7th Grade Girl Scouts Research Presentation

The 7th grade Girl Scouts (including former Quest student Madelyn Di Iorio) were asked to present at Dior Builder's Healthy Home Gala to benefit the American Lung Association. The girls researched the health effects of indoor air quality in homes, performed on-site testing of volatile organic compounds (VOC's) and formaldehyde during construction, and presented their findings to an audience of over 100 guests.

Mariel Hemingway stated, "This is the future of home building and is a beacon for a truly healthy living environment. And these young ladies are our future - what an outstanding job they did."

Girl Scouts posed for a photo with Mariel Hemingway, an iconic Academy Award nominated actor from a celebrated family, prolific author, and healthy lifestyle advocate and Lew Bartfield, Executive Vice President of the American Lung Association who also commended the Girls Scouts for their exceptional presentation.

Healthy Home 2018 constructed by Dior Builders is the next home in a series of real-life, interactive and educational models for cleaner, greener, safer living and the very first in the country to be built under the American Lung Association's revised Health House™ guidelines.

Invest In Kids Act

Illinois recently passed legislation allowing for tax credit scholarships to fund non-public education. The Invest In Kids Act allows DONORS to reserve a donation that will qualify for a 75% Illinois Tax Credit. And it will allow for SCHOLARSHIPS to be awarded from those funds to qualified recipients.

To participate as a DONOR, you will need to:

  1. Consult with your tax advisor to determine if this program makes sense for you.
  2. Activate your account at https://mytax.illinois.gov/
  3. Reserve your tax credit with the Illinois Department of Revenue. Tax credit applications opened January 2, 2018, and it is anticipated that interest will be high and the fund may reach its limit quickly.
    - Designate the region you would like your donation to benefit. Quest is in Region 1, Cook County.
    - Select Empower Illinois as your Scholarship Granting Organization. And note that our school can be listed as either "Quest" or "Creative Children's Academy"
  4. Make your donation within 60 days.

Details about eligibility for SCHOLARSHIPS and the scholarship process can be found at https://empowerillinois.org/

More information about the program in general can also be found by clickinghttp://www.revenue.state.il.us/InvestInKids/
