Thoughts from alumni...

"Quest has a wonderful curriculum that includes a variety of fine arts courses in addition to the advanced academics. Taking classes across a variety of disciplines taught me how to focus my energies in different arenas, and helped me learn how to organize my time efficiently

There are still a number of families who have not submitted emergency forms to Phyllis Perry. Students without forms will not be allowed on field trips. A new form is required each year for all students. Click here for the form.

Dismissal procedures

All dismissals are held from the gym or gym lobby. For regular dismissal, if you do not drive through the pick-up line, but instead come into the building, please wait at the gym lobby doors. This is also the procedure for all after school classes. Make sure you tell the nanny, grandparent, and all designated pick up people that they must go to the gym lobby and not wait in the front lobby. Thank you for your cooperation.

Reporting Absences

If a child is sick and needs to be absent, the parent should call the school before the start of the day on each day of the child's absence. A voicemail message may be left. The school is open between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Please do not send your child to school if he or she is ill. Please report to the school if your child is discovered to have contracted a communicable disease.

Band Program (grades 4-8)
If your child has an interested in learning to play an instrument, here is the perfect opportunity. Please read this information about our Band Program offered through The Music Room in Palatine.

From The Head of Middle School

Dear MS Families,

It's hard to believe that today only marks the first full week of school. It feels as though students have been in the building so much longer. I have witnessed and taken part in so much learning these last few days. The hallways and classrooms are lively and full of such energy.

Students in Mr. Stoffregen's science classes have been designing, constructing, and launching rockets. Sra. Kropp introduced students to cortometrajes (short films) and narrated the events in Spanish. She asked students to think about how the film could be used as a method of social commentary and what questions the film is asking them to think about. LASS students were fully engaged in discussing the meaning of political terms such as laissez faire, freedom, sovereignty, communism, and totalitarianism. Today, I had the opportunity to join Mr. Ryder's PE class and successfully--albeit not very quickly--ran the mile with a group of 8th grade students. Congratulations to you all for giving it your all to achieve your personal best.

In all of the classes, I noticed and was impressed by how teachers engaged all types of learners as students were asked to take notes from lectures, to manipulate objects, to move their bodies, and to use their critical thinking skills to explain their responses.

As many of you have somewhat long commutes from school to home, it is my hope that you take the opportunity to discover what's going on in the middle school classrooms and feel free to use my observations and the classroom blogs as starting points for discussion.

The MS teachers and I thank you for your presence during last night's Meet the Teacher Night. It truly takes a village to raise and educate our students, and I am so pleased to know that we have phenomenal villagers in you--our parents--and in our teachers.

In partnership,

Terri Jackson Wallace

New in the MS:

Have you heard the news? Did you know that there is a new Service Learning group in town? Our Service Learning Leaders are an extraordinary group of students. This year, we have decided to combine EPA and Earth groups to have one environmentally-focused initiative. We have added a new theme called, D.I.C.E, which stands for diversity, inclusion, cultural competency, and equity. The D.I.C.E. leaders are Irina Kryukov and Josie Arnold. The students are looking forward to raising awareness about why diversity matters and how we can be better citizens of our various communities.

A Plea to Parents: It happens at every school. MS parents feel "out of the loop" when it comes to knowing about events happening around schools all over the world. It's not that we decide to stop communicating and sharing with our MS families, but somehow the messages aren't reaching all of you. Every Friday, MS students will have a Friday Folder filled with information that they should be sharing with you. Please ask for them. We need and want you to know about all of the exciting events and activities happening at Quest.

MAP Testing:

Please don't forget that MS students will take the MAP test next week. We have made a concerted effort to spread the tests out. Students will take one test per day. Please take a moment to review the schedule that I shared with you last week. I, again, want to express how important it is that students arrive to school on time, eat a healthy breakfast, and get plenty of rest. Most classes will still be in session this week, however, the MS teachers will be cognizant of the homework load.

MAP Testing Parent Letter & Schedule (Middle School & Lower School)

For MS Only:

  • Dress Code: Parents, we need your help. Our teachers have so many exciting, enriching, and innovative lessons, activities, and projects planned for our students this year. Please help us to concentrate more on the phenomenal academic and character-building programs that you have grown to love and to focus less on policing student attire. Review the Quest Academy dress code policy outlined in the Student Handbook, discuss with your Quest students, and monitor what they wear to school. We thank you in advance.
