Thoughts from alumni...

"Quest has a wonderful curriculum that includes a variety of fine arts courses in addition to the advanced academics. Taking classes across a variety of disciplines taught me how to focus my energies in different arenas, and helped me learn how to organize my time efficiently

Announcing: New Lower and Middle School Heads

After an extensive search and interviews, we have hired the new Lower School and Middle School Heads. It is with great pleasure that we introduce them to you.

Terri Wallace – Middle School Head

Terri WallaceTerri comes to Quest Academy from Maumee Valley Country Day School (Ohio) where she is currently the Head of Middle School. She has an MA in English from the University of Vermont and her BA in English with minors in both Spanish and Public Relations from Dillard University in New Orleans. In addition, Terri has completed all of her coursework and defended her dissertation prospectus for her PhD in Literary Studies and Critical Race Theory from Purdue University.

Terri has over fourteen years of teaching experience at both the college and middle school levels, and has spent the majority of her career in progressive institutions like Quest. In 2013/14 Terri co-chaired the NAIS People of Color Conference and brings to Quest Academy a wealth of experience in diversity and inclusion work.

Terri comes to us with two young girls-- a rising 4th grader (Bailey) and a rising 2nd grader (Madison).

Lisa Diones – Lower School Head

Lisa DionesSome of you may already know Lisa Diones, as she has been a part of the Quest community for almost one year now, serving as Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning and most recently acting as the Interim Lower School Head. Lisa has a B.A. in Elementary Education and a minor in the fine arts from Northeastern Illinois University. She is in the process of finishing her studies to attain her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration ESL studies. Lisa's previous teaching and administrative experiences in early childhood, primary and middle school grade level has cultivated her strong depth of knowledge in differentiated and multi-age instruction. As Lisa and her husband Gus were recently married in October, we look forward to welcoming them both to our community

Farewell to Mrs. Barrios

As you all know, the true heart of Quest Academy is the faculty. One person who has given her heart and soul, who has grown with the school, and who has provided the very first exposure to music for many of our children is Mrs. Mary Barrios. Mrs. Barrios has been with us for slightly over 12 years and has touched the lives of many. With her deep love and her caring nature, she has provided a solid foundation in music for our students, empowering them to build on their knowledge and talents as she sent them off to the middle grades. Mrs. Barrios has decided to continue on another path and is leaving Quest Academy. She will be moving in June to be closer to family. We will miss her. We will miss the proud look in her eyes as she watches her little ones, whether it be on the stage singing, or learning to move to music, or playing an instrument. I know you will all join us in wishing the best for Mrs. Barrios wherever her new adventures take her.

After School Extra-Curricular pick-up

More and more families seem to be migrating to the main lobby to pick up their children from after school classes. Please remember that dismissal is from the gym lobby. This is to ensure the safety of your children as the congestion of the main lobby distracts from teachers being able to see who leaves and to make sure the child leaves with the right people. Please help us in this matter by following this request, which was a suggestion by the Palatine Police Department during a review of our safety procedures. If you send a grandparent, nanny, or other person to pick up, make sure to tell that person to also meet your child in the gym lobby. Remember, students not picked up within 10 minutes of a class ending will be sent to Extended Day. Thank you for your cooperation.

Mental Illness Awareness Tour

My name is Alexander Vassiliadis and I am a Quest Academy Alumni ('09) and a media student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I am contacting Quest Academy in regards to a project called the Mental Illness Awareness Tour.

On May 19, 2016, two other students and I will be embarking on a cross country road trip in a Chicken Car and we are calling it the Mental Illness Awareness (MIA) Tour.

Our goal is simple: diminish the stigma surrounding mental illness while raising awareness.

Check out their web site for details and to donate.
